The Start of Hunsaker Fur & Co.
Trapping and fur harvesting have been a part of my family for a long time. As kids we trapped muskrats, raccoon, opossum, and skunks. We also did some nuisance predator control trapping for pheasant farms. When I moved to Alaska I learned how to trap fox, coyote, wolf, lynx, beaver and more. My next challenge was learning how to make hats and mittens out of the furs I caught. Eventually I started catching more than I knew what to do with, so I began selling a few of my tanned furs. I ended up turning my trapping adventures into a family run business. Today, we are working on teaching the next generation the importance of fur and how to sustain this renewable resource.
